About the national trust

The National Trust is Europe’s largest conservation organisation with over 3.5 million members. We are already experiencing the impacts of climate change at our properties - from buildings, and gardens to coastline and countryside.

We’re taking action to reduce our use of heat and electricity, in particular that generated from fossil fuels. We’re also generating energy from cleaner, greener renewable sources such as woodfuel, hydro-electricity, and solar at our own sites. And we have installed heat pumps to most efficiently convert electricity into heat for our buildings. These modern technologies have been chosen and designed so that they are compatible with historic buildings and sensitive landscapes.
